The products we use play a very important role in the health and appearance of our hair. In particular, choosing a shampoo that keeps your hair healthy and strong is an important process. Unfortunately, some shampoo brands at the pharmacy do the opposite of keeping your hair healthy. According to dermatologists, a good portion of the shampoo you are using can adversely affect or destroy the pH of the scalp until it can lead to hair loss.

According to Erum Ilyas (MD, MBE, FAAD), the big problem with pharmacy shampoos is that many of them have the wrong pH. She explains that "some studies suggest that the pH of shampoos can make our hair more susceptible to ruptures."

As a certified dermatologist, Ilyas warns: " Hair needs an acid to make it less susceptible to moisture, cold and friction."

In other words, choosing a shampoo with the wrong pH can have negative effects on the health and appearance of your hair.

This problem is especially prevalent in local pharmacies. "One study showed that 75% of salon shampoos had the right pH, compared to only 38% of those found in pharmacies," Ilyas says.

Given these results, are you likely to buy the shampoo at the pharmacy as well?

Because controlling pH can be a challenge for you, Ilyas also recommends checking shampoo ingredients, such as sodium sulfate, - the one that makes the shampoo foam.

High amounts of sodium sulfate can lead to a high risk of damage and hair loss because it depletes natural hair oils.
