This fruit is considered a "super food". Now a study shows that an extract taken regularly may slow the deterioration of the body's DNA cells, which may delay the aging process. Scientists found that a daily she-goat dose helps stop the oxidation of a vital chemical marker in the DNA of human cells. In other words, it stops a person from "rusting" DNA, say Spanish researchers who have conducted the tests.
The fruit extract, containing wheat, pickles and fruit seeds, was donated to the 60 volunteers every day. These contain antioxidants and ingredients called punicagins, which are already known to help the body fight cardiovascular disease. But found tests can also have an impact on the cells involved in the aging process. Shega has gained a reputation as a "super food" over the centuries and is used to cure everything from conjunctivitis to piles.

The Spanish labs of Probeltebios gave the volunteer group a supplement containing pomegranate extract every 24 hours for 30 days. During that time, researchers measured the growth or decrease of chemical markers in the body to monitor changes in the regular dose affected. In particular they noticed a drop in a chemical indicator called 8-Oxo-2-deoxyguanosine. Scientists say this is one of the major oxidative stress products of DNA in cells.

DNA in the cell is what causes them to reproduce. If it is damaged, it can actually rust with age, then damaged cells are reproduced. As the cells fade and die, the body is aging, so preventing damage may slow down their reproduction. Dr. Researcher Sergio Streitenberger led the industry-funded study to private biotechnology labs in Madrid. He said: "We are old because we fall into cell after cell. One way to look at aging is to think of it as rust or oxidation, a process of damage."
Shega has gained a reputation as a "super food" over the centuries and is used to cure everything. Pregnant women also use it to stay healthy. Shega contains vitamins A, C and E as well as iron, while the antioxidants in them are good for the heart.
