Former first lady of Mexico and famous actress for the role of Paloma in the "La Gaviota" series, has ended her marriage to her husband, Enrique Pena Nieto. Two months after Nieto completed the presidential mandate, which was accompanied by some scandals, finally the news of the divorce of the couple was finally publicized.
Rivera is a famous actress of television shows and now that marriage ends, political critics are convinced that the former president's marriage to the actress had a marketing effect to boost Pena Nieto's image in the 2012 presidential election campaign.
Earlier this week, Hola magazine wrote that the couple were divorced since December; 6 years after Pena Nieto's mandate was closed.
In a short message published on social media, Rivera said she has done everything possible to keep her marriage alive, but "it's a painful situation".
"Today, all my energy, strength and love are focused on continuing to be a good mother, in recovering my life and professional career," Rivera wrote.
In 2014, many Mexicans revolted when they learned that Rivera was living in a luxury, million-dollar home, which was registered by a builder who had benefited from public contracts.
At the time, the actress said she had acquired a lawful residence with her earnings from her career, but doubts did not disappear after that.
Rivera's and Pena Nieto's latest appearance was on September 15, on the occasion of celebrations on Mexico's Independence Day. But the couple were also seen in January at the funeral of a prominent leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party.
According to Hola, the couple has maintained very good reports even after divorce. Pena Nieto and his three children are still in Mexico, while Rivera and her children have gone to her residence in the United States.
Pena Nieto and Rivera were married in 2010 when he was governor of the state of Mexico. This was the second marriage for each.
