The hearts of the Kennedy family are broken after the death of Saoirse Kennedy Hill , the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy , who, after a long struggle with depression (since high school), ended her life with an overdose.
At just 22 years old, the young woman's death was reported August 1 by the New York Times. The body was found at the Kennedy Coast Complex , in Port Hyannis, Mass. , Where her grandmother and Robert F. Kennedy 's widow , Ethel Kennedy , 91, reside.
Saoirse was the only child of Courtney Kennedy Hill, 62, to graduate from Boston College, Communication, in 2020.
" Our hearts are broken by the loss of our beloved Saoirse," the Kennedy family wrote in a statement to the New York Times. " Her life was filled with hope, with lots of promise and love."
After her granddaughter died, her grandmother, Ethel, said: "The world is less beautiful for me today." Three years before her death, Saoirse was simply a student when she discovered she was in the early stages of a recurring depression, and this was revealed after an essay by her.
"My depression was rooted in the beginning of my high school years and will be with me for the rest of my life. Although I was mostly a happy child, I experienced periods of deep sadness that burdened me like a heavy stone on my chest. These periods were coming and going, but they didn't affect me from the outside until I became a "member" at Deerfield, " Saoirse wrote in February 2016.
The student then made a poignant confession after adding that she "completely lost it" after someone thought she had loved him but had broken "serious sexual boundaries" with her.
Instead of reporting the alleged incident, Saoirse tried to ignore what happened. " All of this was superfluous, so I tried to take control of my life," Kennedy sadly wrote.
