The heat wave that gripped the European continent, breaking records, seems to be turning its eyes to the Balkan region. Meteorologists have announced the start of another wave, this time focusing on the Mediterranean, with hot African currents that will continue until mid-August. In the span of time, the tide is expected to be relatively long.

The heat peak will be recorded next Sunday and Wednesday, with temperatures in southern Italy but also in Albania as high as 40 degrees Celsius.

Between Saturday and next Monday, the heat will intensify further north but stay around the 35 degree limit.

By then, however, the heat in the region will be more contained, thanks to the passage of fresh air across the Atlantic.

The latest heat wave killed several people in Europe, with temperatures in France reaching a new record 45.9 degrees Celsius. For the scorching heat, meteorologists blamed the mass of hot air coming from North Africa.

France has become the seventh European country to cross the 45-degree Celsius mark, along with Bulgaria, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Greece and Northern Macedonia.
