It looks like Instagram is gearing up to eventually rebuild one of its most popular options: Boomerang.

Instagram is rolling out five new video looping effects for its app, according to the code revealed in its Android app.

The new effects were noticed by researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who has a solid track record of discovering unpublished features in social media applications. According to her findings, here are some of the new types of Boomerang effects that come to Instagram:

Hold, which puts a slight delay at the end of a clip
"Dynamic", which speeds to the bottom of the clip
"Slowmo", which captures the clip in slow motion
Two called "duos", which look more like a classic Boomerang, set at different speeds
These may not sound like big changes, but they can create many new opportunities for Boomerangs, which have looked almost the same since Instagram first introduced the functionality in 2015. You can get a better idea of how these actions may appear on Wong's blog.

An Instagram spokesman declined to comment.

In addition to the new Boomerang functionalities, Wong unveiled some other intriguing changes. One that would add Layout to Instagram, the app that lets you make photo collages, on the Stories camera. Another will allow users to send comments to friends in the same way as you can share a post with direct messages.

Another functionality is notification filters. Instead of an endless list of all of your notifications, which can be especially choking if you have a variety of posts, filters will allow you to sort notifications by type.

No word on when these functionalities can be officially launched, but if they are as close as Wong says, we may not wait long.
