Whenever children make mistakes, one of the first methods parents use is corporal punishment, to educate and teach disobedient children. At least four out of five parents in the world do this and out of nine times 10 it's a woman. The research explains the five essential reasons why this is the method is simply harmful.
It doesn't work and makes things worse
True, children can be aggressive and parents' patience has its limits, but when they resort to corporal punishment, nothing is achieved. Investigations find that violence does not work, it is not a method to discipline a child because they must internalize the causes of misconduct. In other words, children need to understand, they require an explanation of why the behavior is not appropriate. Violence is just a quick way to stop a child's actions.
One ends up becoming a violent parent with an abused child
Surveys reveal that most cases of child abuse start with corporal punishment. Since corporal punishment does not work, parents usually increase the amount of force used whenever their child does not behave properly. In either case, they expect corporal punishment to have a permanent disciplinary effect, but that will never happen. As a result, they increase their use of force and eventually mistreat their children in ways they had never imagined.
Violence breeds a future aggressor
Children who have been physically punished during their childhood are more likely to use violence against children and their partner. If the mother or father uses slaps to resolve a conflict, this is what the child will learn and do.
Children can start to suffer from depression
As a child's life revolves around his parents, he begins to think he is not loved. This affects the process of socializing children.
Literally, it makes kids sick
Only by constantly witnessing violence does a child reach the levels of stress that worsen his immune system. Getting regular physical punishment has an even greater effect because the immune system degenerates so that the child becomes more susceptible to illness. In cases where the child already has health problems, corporal punishment only worsens them.
