For varicose veins or varicose veins, as we know them daily, treatments and recommendations are endless. The swollen and twisted veins that can be seen beneath the surface of the skin, mostly on the legs, are a major problem for a good portion of women. Although medical treatment is often dismissed as focusing more on a cosmetic disturbance, if left untreated, it can cause moderate pain, decrease a person's quality of life, and lead to more serious health complications, such as venous thrombosis. deep or blood clots. More than 15 million people in Turkey, according to a recent study there, are suffering from varicose veins.

So what causes the formation of varicose veins and how can we avoid the condition? Dr. Faruk Cingöz, of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Kayseri Memorial Hospital, shared his tips to help prevent varicose veins and explained who is most at risk.

According to Cingöz, there are five major factors that lead to varicose veins: genes and age, a love of high heels, sedentary life, alcohol-like habits, smoking, and sex.

Focusing especially on the latter factor, Cingöz said that women are four times more likely than men to be affected by varieties. However, men do not tend to go to the doctor and get treatment, even avoiding this part, while women have a higher rate of early diagnosis. If their sexual activity begins at a very young age, varicose veins also appear earlier. Always a problem for women is the aesthetic appearance of the skin.

Of course, stress is the root of all health evils

Recent studies have found that more than 30% of patients with varicose veins have experienced high levels of stress. The stress caused by daily stress often lowers their quality of life.

Cingöz also warned patients not to delay going to the doctor or giving up thinking the pain would ease. Late diagnosis and treatment can lead to other serious health problems over time.
