For the first time since it's launch, Instagram will ask users to post their birthday. Starting today, anyone who wants to open a social network account must provide the correct age. Users under 13 will not be able to have an Instagram account. This measure was taken to protect minors by not exposing them to inappropriate content.

Instagram showed that information on the age of users will be used to give young people more privacy, such as blocking messages from people who don't follow you. Users' birthday will not be made public for any other users. The change will not be felt by those who currently have an Instagram account, as their birthday will be automatically taken over by Facebook (if the networks are linked).
