Divorces reach a record level since our 90s in our country. According to Monitor estimates by figures released by INSTAT, since 1990 their number has been 2675, in 2018 their number has reached 4846, almost a doubling in two decades. Legal experts cite economic reasons as the main reason for their growthâ?¦

It is no longer a surprise that the most favorite month for Albanians to get married is August and this fact is supported by INSTAT's five year statistics. Another fact that statistics are showing every year is the increase in the divorce rate among Albanians.

According to INSTAT, in 2018 about 23 thousand marriages were registered in the civil registry offices, or 8.1 marriages per 1,000 inhabitants. While in 2018 divorces increased, recording 4,846 cases, from 4,240 divorces in 2014, an increase of 12% in 5 years.

During 2014-2018 there is an increase of this rate, from 1.5 divorces per 1,000 inhabitants in 2014, to 1.7 divorces per 1,000 inhabitants in 2018.
In 2017, according to INSTAT, the divorce rate again rose, reaching 19.9 divorces in 100 marriages.

According to legal experts, the reasons leading to a divorce are largely economic. But also an awareness of women who in recent years have an educational and vocational level that allows them to afford a living, even when there are children involved.

Av. Denisa Daka tells the Monitor that during 2018 we have seen increasing cases of divorce lawsuits, evidence that compared to previous years clearly shows the increase. According to Dhaka's lawyer, the reasons are the difficult economic situation, the despair, the uncertainty that has fueled their growth. According to her, the divorce process is followed by the increasing level of emigration, because in the conditions of finding a hopeless situation, everyone finds the opportunity to leave the country.
