Coronavirus affects anyone, but the most at risk are those over 60 because they get sick faster. Some tips are applicable to every generation, but there are specific precautions that older people need to take to protect their health.

The CDC says seniors and people with severe chronic illness are more likely to be affected by Covid-19.

"Adults are more at risk because the immune system is weakened with age," said Dr. Samir Sinha, Director of Geriatrics for the Sinai Health System and the University Health Network in Toronto.

People over 80 should be even more careful. A report published in the medical journal JAMA, which examined more than 72,000 Chinese coronavirus patients, found that the overall mortality rate was 2.3%. But in adults over 80, the mortality rate increased by 15%.

What precautions should you take now?

Cancel all nonessential appointments with doctors.

- If it's something he can expect, then he has to wait.

- If you have an important appointment, you can do so via video from your phone. 'Tele-health' technology enables physicians to consult with patients who may not be able to get out of their homes.

- Tell a friend, boyfriend, co-worker or neighbor if you are worried about the disease. Designate one of them as an emergency contact you can call to ask for help.

What to book?

The CDC recommends that you get plenty of food and toilet paper that can last for a long period of time. There is no timeline for the Covid-19 outbreak, so think about the basics. You can freeze foods if you are concerned about them. But booking medicines ahead of time is not always possible. You can provide medication for 90 days. If this is not possible, the CDC suggests ordering by mail.

How should you change your daily activity?

- Avoid public places where crowds may gather or where ventilation is poor, so the risk of transmission is higher.

- You don't have to shut yourself off from public life, but be vigilant when you enter it.

- Seniors need to be well trained and nourished, as they would at any other time of the year.

- Washing hands before, during and after a leak is required.

How to manage your trips?

The CDC advises seniors not to travel by plane if it is something they can expect.

Stay as close to the boats as possible because the passengers are more vulnerable to the virus because of the small surface area.

If you need to isolate, consider:

- Do not interrupt contact with family or friends.

- Keep in touch with them to inform them about your health and avoid boredom.
