Having sensitive skin can be frustrating and it may seem like no matter what you do, your skin is still frustrated. But you do not have to endure a constant state of burning or itching. Just make sure you are not making these common mistakes to sensitive skin.

1. Using many products

If you apply sunscreen, moisturizer, foundation or acne treatment at the same time, you are doing more harm than good to maintaining the skin. Using too many products can worsen it, causing itching, burning and redness. Overloading, in fact, can make the skin more sensitive than it was before. Wash your face and body with a gentle cleanser and apply only one or two products at a time. Dermatologists recommend a moisturizer and an oil-free sun cream. Try applying some products in the morning and some at night to give the skin the ability to ventilate.

2. Choosing the wrong products

For people with sensitive skin, alcohol and fragrance-containing skin products should not be used in any way. The active ingredients in these creams, lotions and cleansers can irritate the skin and lead to a strong reaction, especially if more than one product is used at a time. Also, avoid using the wrong product for your skin type. For example, do not use an oil-based serum if you are prone to oily skin and have acne.

3. Long shower and hot water

Long, hot showers can dry the skin even more. Limit the shower time to 5 or 10 minutes and do not allow the water to get too hot. Hot water is better. Wash with a fragrance-free cleanser and after exiting the shower, gently dry the skin with a towel. Complete the routine using a fragrance-free moisturizer.

4. Fragrances and fabric softeners

Look for cleansers that are labeled hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and colorless. This rule also applies to fabric softeners and stain removers, too.

5. Wearing new clothes without first washing them

Once you have purchased the right cleaner, be sure to wash your new clothes before you wear or use them. Articles made of cotton and polyester can cause redness and itching. Washing new clothes once or twice before wearing them can solve this problem.

6. Do not wash your face before bed

Just as you need to brush your teeth twice a day, it is important to wash your face in the morning and at dinner. The opposite can irritate the skin and cause redness and itching, not to mention acne. Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser every night before going to bed.
