Forty volunteers in the US received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine, which is partially funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The vaccine was produced by the American biotech company "Inovio". She had previously been tested on animals and gave positive results.

According to 'TGCOM 24', the volunteers who received the second dose were selected from Philadelphia and Kansas City.

Inovio CEO Joseph Kim said: "This is an important step forward, against a virus that, without the vaccine, will continue to threaten people's lives and livelihoods. Our researchers, partners and funders have been mobilized since early January, when the genetic sequence of the virus became available, to ensure the success of the Ino-4800 .

The goal of the American company is for the vaccine to be ready within 12-18 months.

Joseph Kim also said: "What has been achieved so far with this experiment is an important historical moment in function of this goal."

The initial immune responses of forty volunteers and study data are expected to be ready by the end of the summer. The company is trying to increase production of the 'Ino-4800' and is planning to prepare one million doses by the end of the year.
