In its over 100-year history, it has never happened that Vogue has had a blank cover. For the first time, in the April issue, Vogue Italia comes with a blank white cover, which will be published on Friday, the 10th.
In a social media post, Vogue Italia explained why this month's cover will be:
"In its more than 100-year history, Vogue has emerged from wars, crises, and terrorist attacks. About 2 weeks ago we were printing a number we had planned for a long time, which included L'Uomo Vogue, in a twin project. But talking about something else at a time when people are dying, doctors and nurses are risking their lives and the world is changing forever - is not the DNA of Vogue Italia.
Accordingly, we canceled the project and started over. The decision to print a white cover, for the first time in history, did not come because we lacked photos - quite the opposite. We chose it because white symbolizes many things at once.
White is, above all, respect.
White is rebirth, light after darkness, the sum of all colors.
White is the color of the uniforms of those who risk their lives to save ours.
It represents space, time to think and at the same time to be silent.
White is for those who are filling this empty time and space with ideas, thoughts, stories, lines, music and caring for others.
White reminds us when, after the 1929 crisis, this unadulterated color was adopted for clothes, as an expression of purity in the present and hope in the future.
Above all: white is not a surrender, but a blank sheet of paper waiting for the title of a new story to be written. â?
