Individual citizen or tribal in relation to the European concept, how far or close is the ability of the Albanian people to accept the contemporary mentality
Researcher and writer Ndriçim Kulla, in this publication that is interesting and valuable, has summarized the features of Albanians. We are a people of contrasts, contrasts that exist within our individual character, we are reserved or individualistic, generous, but we suffer from vanity; hospitable but also vindictive; we keep our word, but we are also skeptical; we can go to the end of the world, but we do not want to know what is going on behind the fence of our house, we are brave, but in the battles that each of us chooses.
With a wealth of references, the researcher Kulla has shed light on the qualities of the first Albanians from the point of view of foreign writers such as Byron or Edith Durham.
In a voluminous 400-page book, the author dwells on comparative levels to find the answer to the question "Who are we Albanians?", Our relationship with the past, the terrain and the psychological formation of the Albanian man and the features of his character. The question "Who are we Albanians?" Has led the author from Albanian thought to Albanian philosophy.
The author shows us the ability of Albanians to accept the European mentality, in addition to hospitality or sincerity, another value of Albanians is religious tolerance.
But on the other hand, he also spoke about the weaknesses of Albanians such as individualism, which makes it destructive and does not serve society, unlike Europeans.
Through this book, Kulla wanted to offer today's Albanian individual some views and a selected literature on who we Albanians are. The author in question, disfiguring an opinion of our renaissance, in the book "Këndonjëtorja" looks at the Albanian, respectively the division of Toskëria and Gegëria as a division between the areas of Ancient Illyria - a thesis for which the author does not say the truth yes or no , at least that's how it is understood ...
However, the author, relying on a rich literature as well as the wisdom of the sovereign, concludes that we are Tosk and Gheg, which constitutes a variety of different linguistic, ethnographic values (customs, clothing, art, etc.), ie. . a cultural asset. And he states: "we are Albanians, then Tosks and Ghegs, although various scholars find a" racial division "between us, Gheg and Tosks Albanians (tall and short, blondes and brunettes, thin and thick, round and wide head, smart and stupid, find and mediocre, wise and crazy ...)
However, even according to the author in question, Albanians are a single race, we are one of the most ancient Europeans, we have been defenders of Europe, but we have been forcibly separated from it, we have returned to Europe, although over the centuries we have lost much of Europeanism. then we are regenerated, revived ...
But we are, nevertheless, a people of contrasts and contrasts exist within the character itself.
In the book: "Who are we Albanians", the author also writes about Albanian individualism which is destructive. Writing about this issue, about Albanian individualism, the researcher also referred to Konica, Eqerem bej Vlora, but also to foreign observers, concludes, quite convincingly, that this phenomenon is as old as humanity itself ...
The book offers interesting, important and valuable perspectives on who we Albanians are.
