The mother and blogger, Molly DeFrank, has managed to do what many parents havenâ??t done yet: limit childrenâ??s screen time to a minimum. She supports the decision and the effects with surprisingly strong positive results proving that the less time children spend in front of a screen, the better it is for their health.

Find this story here to see if it really works.

The kids were acting like â??Demogorgonsâ? because of the screens.

Molly saw that the children had consumed a lot of their equipment and decided to act. She wrote, "My precious babies were acting like Demogorgons. (Demogorgon is a deity or demon, connected to the underworld and predicted to be a powerful being whose name had been taboo.)"

According to her, even a limit of only 1 hour is ruining children's creativity, causing stupidity, fights and swearing. So she and her husband decided to remove the plug.

Her 5-step plan to help children leave screens.

a. 'Disable' screens completely in 30 days.

Go to the library and let them find a bunch of books they think are interesting.

b. Make a list of free gaming options. Your childhood can be a useful reference!

c. Watch and observe the children and which activities they like best.

ç. Make a long-term plan that works best for your family.

Her experiment showed undeniable results.

According to Molly, the abandonment of the screens was surprisingly easy and her 9-year-old daughter had told her she was actually happy they had been removed from her routine. Moreover, the girl has advanced 5 reading levels in just 7 months and is able to read books faster than Molly can afford them, while the boy has given the family art lessons.

"My children play together more, they are more creative, more obedient, happier and sleep better. Of course, they are still human beings and can fight with each other like any sibling, or sister with sister. But the change in their attitudes in general was immediate, visible and for the better, she explained.

Kids can really live without Netflix, YouTube and all their favorite video games, with which they want to spend hours playing. Technology is, of course, very useful, but we need to teach children not to become addicted or obsessed with it. Mollyâ??s kids are proof that your kids can be happy without being in front of technological devices all day long. And not only thatâ?¦ They will actually benefit from it!

Guidelines for the use of media by children:

In 2016, the American Academy of Pediatrics published a list of recommendations that could help you do what Molly did.

a. Create a family plan for media / technological equipment.

b. Check what type of media or technological device is being used and learn which ones are suitable for each child. Agree on deadlines and types of media.

c. Help your child choose media that will be educational and good for them.

ç. For children 6 years of age and older, the use measures should be specific so that other activities, such as physical activity, sleep, family meals, school and friends, are not violated.

d. Do not allow children to use any media / technological equipment while doing homework. Make sure you donâ??t sleep with appliances in the bedrooms.

f. Create media-free areas, such as the dinner table, for example.

Show your children healthy ways to use social media.
