Academy Award-winning singer Melissa said she had joined hundreds of thousands of families who have 'lost loved ones to opioid addiction' (a type of drug) while mourning the loss of their 21-year-old son.

Beckett Cypher has died at the age of 21 after a battle with opioid addiction. His mother, Melissa Etheridge, shared the news via a Twitter post last night.

â??We struggle with what we could have done to save him and in the end we know he has been relieved of the pain now,â? Melissa said.

Beckett was the second son of singer-songwriter Melissa and film director Julie Cypher, who passed away two years after the boy was born.

When Beckett was one year old, Melissa discovered that the boy's biological father was singer David Crosby. Crosby is also the father of Beckett's older sister, Bailey, who was also welcomed through artificial insemination as a brother.

Opioid overdose is life-threatening and requires immediate urgent attention as the central nervous system and respiratory system begin to fail.

To the dilemma of whether to sing anymore, Melissa replied, "I will sing again, soon. That has always healed me."
