Unlike what is known to everyone as the Blue Moon or the day that adds to the anxiety of a long week, the opposite happens when it comes to the weekend. It is also called the 'Weekend Effect' (the weekend effect that makes people happier, starting on Friday and continuing until Sunday evening, when the "Monday effect" begins. Thus, from recent studies on this occasion, it is precisely FRIDAY the happiest day of the week.
A study of a few years ago, which had as its object employees from simple secretaries to physicists or lawyers, people with different life experiences, with different routines, vital lives or even less such, it turned out that all agreed on one point: their happy period starts from Friday to Sunday evening.
The study, conducted in 2010, was published in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology. Participants in it were different age groups, employees in various private and state companies. The 'Weekend effect' was present to everyone. Regardless of the work they do, the weekend is what makes people happier by up to 11 percent, according to the study.
The study involved more than 74 adults, aged 18 to 62, who worked 30 hours a week (no more than that). For three weeks in a row, participants described their feelings three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening. For each page, they completed a section of specific questions, which asked them to describe the activity of the day, setting the appropriate points for feelings, such as happiness, pleasure, but also anxiety, fatigue or depression. Also, such symptoms that are caused by stress such as headaches, eye problems, tachycardia, etc.
In the end, it turned out that both genders, men and women, feel better on the weekends, mentally and physically - starting on Friday. They feel better at this time of the week, regardless of how much money they have earned, how many hours they have worked or how much professional capacity they have achieved.
Also, everyone feels better on the weekends, regardless of age, being single, married, divorced, etc.
" Employees, even those with high social status and high interests, are all happier on the weekends," said study author Richard Ryan, a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. "Our studies found how important is free time people and how good it makes mental health Ò«do individual ", - adds Ryan.
