Rose water is made by steam distillation of rose petals and has become part of the beauty routine of women and girls since the time of ancient Egypt. Rose water has stood the test of time precisely because of its many properties. Dr. Tiffany Jow, a dermatologist in New York, told Harper's Bazaar five things you did not know about miraculous water uses.
It is rich in antioxidants
Antioxidants are very necessary to prevent damage that can be caused to the skin by oxidative stress. When used for skin care, it helps the skin fight free radicals and damage caused by UV rays, pollution and stress.
It can help with acne
As rose water has antimicrobial properties it can serve as a natural treatment for acne. Jow suggests using a serum, as they are highly concentrated with rose water and allow better penetration into the skin than creams.
It has anti-inflammatory properties
If you suffer from eczema or rosacea, rose water can help soothe redness, as it has anti-inflammatory properties.
It is moisturizing for the face and body
Rose water helps to soften the skin, but also to hydrate the hair. You can add a few drops to your shampoo or conditioner.
Reduces stress
The reason why pink is used in many perfumes is because it has a very good fragrance. What you probably did not know is that its aroma also affects your mood. Smelling rose water reduces stress and helps to create a calmer and more relaxed state. According to studies, its smell lowers the levels of cortisol (stress hormones) in the human body.
