His passion for wines is one of those typical love stories, which are consolidated over time! Almost everyone knows Bruno Vespa, the personality of Italian television and journalism. With a professional career approaching a decade, Vespa is the label of television success in the neighboring country, but also a "heavyweight" in the studio of "Porta a Porta", a show that has been running for years. all in Rai.
In the "new normal" in which we all live, the whole world due to the global pandemic of Covid-19, the Vespa format was suspended for only three days due to a Rai problem and only that! His quarantine, as the well-known journalist himself states in this exclusive interview for Class magazine, was different from ours. Typical vineyards are grown here, such as Primitivo and Negroamaro, which are the basis of Rosso Puglia, for example. He cultivated the plantations according to the technique of the seedlings found in Manduria, 90 meters above sea level, in muddy soils, while the vines aged between 15-20 are there as evidence of a thoughtful choice by Vespa and more winemakers. industry professionals.

Tachis was a friend of mine and he was the first to make great wines by the sea. My most important Primitivo vineyard in Puglia is also close to the sea. My passion is ancient, over the last forty years I have followed the history of Italian wine through good times and bad times. When I became a producer, I chose Puglia because it has not yet received all the awards it deserves for its great wines.

The great Italian reds sometimes beat the French. They are unsurpassed in communication. They reject blind tastings with ours. They are afraid of losing and they say rightly: we don't sell wine, we sell France.

- In the Vespa Vignaioli company, do you work as a brand developer or (or) do you like the land and follow the processes in the vineyard?

To each his own profession. I follow everything, from A to Z: I sometimes suggest, but I don't interfere.

- Who produces drinks and enjoys it so much, right? ("Wine is made in the vineyard!", A romantic slogan that wants to show the importance of working in the vineyard. What would you add to this slogan?)

Wine is made in the vineyard, but the contribution of winemakers is increasingly crucial.

- You don't produce wines for business, but for passion? Are sales going well?

You produce wines for passion and not for business. But how are sales going?

Passion was fundamental. But I'd be crazy if I didn't look at the accounts, given the investments we've made.

- What is the market where you sell the most?

United States. But with small quantities we are present in around twenty countries.

- The winemaker must be good at not ruining what nature has created! What does “respect for nature” mean when a wine is produced?

A good winemaker can save a bad harvest. The bad winemaker can ruin a good one.

- Which means of communication do you think is ideal for promoting your company?

Communication is now global. In Albania, and beyond, Alketa Vejsiu is essential whatever he does ...

- Do you prefer to spend more time in the vineyard or cellar?

My wife is totally involved in the project. He oversaw the renovation of our Masseria Li Reni (www.masserialireni.com) from 1500. Next year a great white wine will be released that will bear his name, Donna Augusta.

- How do you define yourself as a father? What did the children teach you?

I believe I am a good father overall. The children try to improve me ...

Porta a Porta was suspended for only three days due to an error by Rai. For the rest we went on the air regularly. My personal quarantine was therefore partial and much more comfortable than that of most people.

-Who is your biggest critic, in terms of professional career? Was there a mentor on TV?

Blendi è un eccellente professionista e un amico. Mi fece una eccellente impressione. Quando vengo in Albania incontro sia i leader della maggioranza che quelli dell’opposizione. Il livello della classe politica mi pare buono e avete una eccellente leva di politici giovani.

-Com è la Sua solita giornata, ora che vive lontano dalla televisione? Sta scrivendo un nuovo libro?

Mi riposo, mi occupo del vino e della bella masseria Li Reni che abbiamo in Puglia e preparo il libro che uscirà a fine ottobre. Due dittature a confronto: il fascismo e il Covid…

-Sappiamo che legge molto, quale libro ha in mano attualmente?

Non leggo mai un solo libro. La scelta dipende dall’umore e dal tempo disponibile. Attualmente -  a parte i libri sul fascismo e quelli sul Covid – sto leggendo gli Annali di Tacito, Guerra e pace di Tolstoj, Perturbamento di Bernhard, La versione di Barney di Richler e rileggendo Il Principe di Machiavelli.

-Un autore che consiglierebbe senza pensarci affatto?

-Quanto é importante per la democrazia mediatica questo passo?
