Netflix has apologized for what was considered an "inappropriate act" used to promote the movie "Cuties". The French-language film won the World Cinema Direction Award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but was not well received by Netflix audiences.

"Sorry for the inappropriate artwork we used for Mignonnes / Cuties. It was not okay nor did it represent this award-winning French film in Sundance. Now we have changed the pictures and description," Netflix said in a statement. on Twitter.

But what influenced the controversy surrounding this movie by Netflix giant followers?

Directed by French filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré, "Cuties" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. At the time, Doucouré explained how the project was inspired after she saw a group of little girls dancing "sensually" to an audience that was their parents.

"At one point, a group of dancers come on stage and dance. It was very attractive, but at the same time very disturbing because they were only 11 years old. "They danced very sensually, they wore very short clothes," said Doucouré.

Përkundrazi, shikuesve traileri i “Cuties” iu prezantua me këto fjalë:

People have called this Netflix presentation disgusting and deemed unacceptable the fact that minors are sexually abused in this way.

The video of the movie trailer on YouTube was filled with comments criticizing Netflix for sexually abusing minors, but there was also a lot of criticism for the filmmakers. Netflix later changed the description on YouTube, writing:

"Amy, 11, tries to escape family dysfunction by joining a free-spirited dance group called the Cuties, as they build self-confidence through dancing."

The film premieres September 9 on Netfilx.
