Casinos in Albania were closed by the decision of the government on December 31, 2018. Almost two years after the closure, the decision was made to return them. However, there are some conditions that must be met by the casinos that will be reopened.
According to the recent decision, only one casino will be allowed in the allowed areas in Tirana.
But to obtain the license required to open a casino, any legal entity or association of legal entities must meet a set of conditions and criteria.
Some of the conditions are:
- to be a company in the Republic of Albania
- must have a capital of not less than 1.2 billion ALL
- declare the source of capital to be invested in the casino
- to have experience in this field
In addition to meeting the criteria, persons interested in opening the activity must submit to the Gambling Supervisory Authority a statement proving that they and shareholders are not in court, have not been previously convicted in the field of economic crime, tax or customs evasion and a number of other offenses.
They should not have unpaid tax liabilities, or be debtors to state institutions.
The applicant must submit a notarized copy of the registration certificate with the unique identification number of the applicant and the statute of the company as well as a certificate from the BCC certifying that the company is in active status.
