The daughter of former Belgian King Albert II, Delphine Boël, born out of wedlock, hopes the court will give her the same rights and titles as her father's legal children.
Boel, 52, has taken the case to the appellate court in Brussels.
Boel's lawyer said Thursday that she was seeking the same rights as Albert's other three children, Philippe, now King of Belgium, Prince Laurent and Princess Astrid.
"Delphine 's position has nothing to do with whether or not she wants to be a princess. She does not want to be different from other children. She wants to have exactly the same privileges, titles and capacities as her siblings, said lawyer Marc Uyttendaele.
While Albert's lawyer says she can be given the title "princess" only by royal decree, not by a court.

King Albert admitted he was the father of Delphine Boel in January this year after struggling with her claim to paternity for more than a decade.
Delphine's mother, Baroness Sybille de Selys Longchamps, has revealed that she had an 18-year relationship with Albert before he became king.

He held this position until July 2013, when he announced his abdication - due to ill health - and was replaced by his son, Philippe.
The 86-year-old had resisted court orders to undergo DNA testing until he had to face fines of € 5,000 a day if he continued to refuse.
In January, he announced that he had adopted Delphine Boel as his fourth child after "learning the results of DNA tests".
"Her life has been a long nightmare because of this demand for identity," Uyttendaele told RTL television.
