This year's Emmys were organized differently than any other year, as they were performed in pandemic times, Emmy 2020 or "pand-emmy", as the director Jimmy Kimmel called it, was an unusual spectacle, as an audience present in the hall it was something simply impossible.

In fact, on social media everyone was confused when they saw that the show opened with a crowded hall and the audience laughed at Kimmel's jokes.

The camera moved to some guests like Oprah, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lorne Michaels, Lin Manuel Miranda and many others who were laughing as Kimmel made the opening ceremony. Everyone was confused, thinking that the audience did not care at all about wearing masks or maintaining social distance.

Kimmel later discovered that it was an old-fashioned show and showed the real audience, which consisted of rows of empty seats and cardboard cuts of nominees like Regina King and Hugh Jackman. He then showed a room full of real nominees on Zoom screens from their homes.

Nominees stayed in their living rooms, kitchens or home offices, watching the spectacle and accepting awards. However, even though their participation was virtual, the VIPs could not "appear" at the Emmy in clothes anyway. Even though the only carpet they could break was that of their home, the VIPs still shone.
