The area of â??â??the former Bloc, Astiri and Kombinati are considered the hottest areas of coronavirus infection in the capital. The risk of infection is higher in these areas of the capital and this fact was confirmed during the meeting with Minister Manastirliu by epidemiologist Rexhep Muja.

" Our main focus is mainly on schools and to be connected with the hotspots we have in the capital, mainly Astiri, the former Bloc, Kombinat, etc.", - said epidemiologist Rexhep Muja.

But why are these areas in Tirana hotter than the others?

First, it is about highly populated areas and, as a result, the infection finds ground easily. Also, Astiri, Ish-Blloku and Kombinati are frequented by many young people, who neglect to wear masks. Although the mask has become mandatory on the streets, there are still citizens who do not apply this law. But there are others who wear the mask under their chin.

Since the start of the pandemic, the capital has been at the top of the list as one of the most hit cities. Currently, according to ministry data, there are 3001 active infected or half of the active cases registered across the country. In recent days, a distribution of cases has been noticed in the districts, mainly the northern regions, as Manastirliu pointed out yesterday, are the ones that have an increased number of infections.

Even Saturday, although with a relatively lower number than Friday, still remains in high infection figures. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced that during the last 24 hours the number of new cases of COVID-19 has decreased compared to the previous day. Thus, 273 new cases and 5 loss of life were tested positive, while yesterday 289 people were tested positive.

Positive cases confirmed in the last 24 hours have been identified in the following municipalities: 192 cases in Tirana, 17 cases in Korça, 12 cases in Lezha, 10 cases in Gjirokastra, 8 cases in Shkodra, 7 cases in Saranda, 5 cases in Kavaja, 4 cases in Durrës, 3 cases in Fier, 2 cases in Kurbin, Kamëz, Tepelena, Gramsh, 1 case in Lushnjë, Mirditë, Mallakastër, Mat, Divjakë, Malësi e Madhe, Patos.

The total number of cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic is estimated at 16,774, while that of the victims 448. Fortunately, 44 people won the battle with the virus in 24 hours, bringing the total number of cured to 10,001.

Currently, 259 patients are being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital and "Shefqet Ndroqi", 20 in intensive therapy, of which 3 patients are intubated.
