A proverb says: the eyes are the mirror of the soul. Now that masks are part of our 'new normal', this expression takes on more value than ever.

Masks can be very effective for protection against the virus, but one thing is for sure: they make communication more difficult for us.

They create confusion when we talk to someone. The mask loses the facial expressions that sometimes speak louder than words. The most important question that arises is: how to distinguish someone when he is a filter?

All we have to do is observe how the eye muscles move. Here's how we can 'read' eye communication:

1. 'Zbrapsu!'

At this time we often use this word, to maintain social distance but not only. Go back or leave we can also tell someone we are angry with. Threatening mimics are characterized by eye opening, as in this case.

2. Flirtues

How do we know someone is showing interest in us? In fact during a filtering the eyes play the leading role. Yes with a mask put on the importance of eye reaction increases even more. Thus raising eyebrows shows that a person is impressed and raised cheeks show that there is smile under the mask.

3. Sarcasm

A sarcastic face is the main reflection of a complex emotion, where two different expressions meet.
Eyes that are positioned upwards or constricted to indicate a (sarcastic) smile. Slight wrinkling of the eyebrow indicates slight anger / frustration.

4. Innocent

When we remove the blame from ourselves, the mimics are numerous, but with a local mask this is appropriate.

5. Happy

You smile and the world smiles at you, so they say. But this is easier said than done when our faces are hidden under a mask. A cheerful expression tends to be one of the most difficult facial expressions to read when our mouth is covered because we grow up learning that a smile is the key indicator of happiness.
We acknowledge that this is a happy face because the eyes show it. They are positioned upwards because the smile pushes the cheeks and they close the eye.

6. Confusion

Of all the facial expressions we draw during isolation, a confused face should be one of the most common. The main thing to look at here are the eyebrows. It is characterized by widening of the eyes and raising of the eyebrows.
