A survey by the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada and Trojan condoms has found that if you hug after sex, women will have more desire to have sex with you.
2400 Canadians were asked about this survey about the last time they had sex. Of women who hugged their partner 6 to 10 minutes after sex, 71 percent rated the experience as "very satisfying." This compared to 41 percent of women who were less embraced.
In fact, post-sex intimacy was just as important to women as the pre-sex stage, says study author Robin Milhausen, Ph.D., a professor of sexuality at the University of Guelph.
This can happen because the bodies of women and men are filled with oxytocin, the hormone of intimacy, after sex and are hungry for more affection, says Milhausen.
In addition, women often feel weak after sex, she says. If they spend a few extra minutes petting in bed, they feel their partner cares about them.
"It's one of the easiest things you can do to improve your relationship. "It's a very important opportunity, but it is often not used, to get closer," says Milhausen.
Most people in the study cut off contact after the 6th minute: 17 percent of respondents did not pet at all and 36 percent stayed close to five minutes.
So after intercourse, pull close to your partner or let him rest his head on your chest, Milhausen suggests.
Continue for at least 6 minutes, though you should not look at the clock, play with your hair, rub your back, kiss her on the cheek or forehead, and make a sweet compliment on how well you felt with her.
What do you gain? The survey found that hugging increased satisfaction among men as well.
And as long as hugs give positive feelings to the partner in this relationship, chances are she will have more desire to have intimacy with you, in the near future, says Milhauesn.
