Have you heard of polar night before?
"Polar night is a normal phenomenon that happens every winter for Barrow and every other city within the Arctic Circle," said CNN meteorologist Allison Chinchar.
Barrow, Alaska City, will have no contact with the sun for the next two months. The small town is located north of the Arctic Circle and has entered its annual phase of darkness, known as polar night.
This phenomenon occurs every winter due to the tilt of the Earth's axis, which prevents sunlight from appearing above the horizon.
The city will not be completely dark. But most hours of the day will pass through periods known as civil twilight.
Barrow is not the only place in Alaska to experience this phenomenon, but it is first on the polar night's list due to its location far to the north.
The opposite happens in the summer season, when the phenomenon known as a midnight sun or polar day appears and causes 24 hours of light.
