Google has published the list of top searches in the US for 2020 and as can be expected, "coronavirus", "election results" and "Zoom" topped. To be clear: these are not the main searches or the most requested topics. Rather, they are "research that had a high traffic growth (trending) for a stable period in 2020, compared to 2019," as announced by Google.

Among the top trending searches were Kobe Bryant, Naya Rivera and Chadwick Boseman, all of whom died in 2020.

Google's top news searches include "incentive checks," as the distribution of $ 1,200 in government payments did not go well; "unemployment", as millions lost their jobs due to pandemic blockages; "fires in Australia"; "super Tuesday" and "Hurricane Laura".

Leading people in Google trending searches included President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Kanye West, Tom Brady, Tom Hanks and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Overall, it has been a pretty awful year and the research topics mostly show this.

In terms of movies, the main trending research was the Oscar winners, "Parasites"; Black Panther; "Sonic the Hedgehog", "Little Women" and "Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey". The main trending shows were Netflix: "Tiger King", along with "The Queen's Gambit", "Cobra Kai", "Outer Banks" and "Ozark", as well as "Little Fires Everywhere".

There was also a trending search category "during coronavirus"; people wanted to know if they could go to the dentist, buy a house, find a job, make appointments and so on.

In short, these are the things that have been trending on Google over this long year that seemed to us like a decade.
