DreamLab users around the globe have helped Imperial College London scientists accelerate the first phase of the Corona-AI project in just 6 months. The Corona-AI project introduced in April this year aims to uncover different combinations of food molecules to see which ones could theoretically help a person fight Covid-19.
Imperial College London's Corona-AI study project was made possible by the award-winning (multi-award winning) DreamLab app, created by the Vodafone Foundation, initially with the aim of helping research into cancer treatments. DreamLab uses the power of collective smartphone charging processing to create a virtual supercomputer capable of processing thousands of calculations, speeding up the time it takes to deliver results.
Researchers working on this project at Imperial College London have announced the first findings from research, including the identification of food molecules with antiviral compounds to assess which food combinations may offer some medical benefits to treat Covid -19, such as blueberries, apples, oranges, lemons, cabbage, broccoli, onions, garlic, celery, beans.
The study also confirmed that existing drugs used to fight cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders such as simvastatin, atorvastatin and metformin could be used as new indications or alternative uses of existing drugs in the fight against Covid-19.
The findings will now be further analyzed by researchers, who say clinical validation is needed to assess what impact these molecules may have.
The application has already been downloaded by 100 thousand smartphone users in 17 countries around the world, including Albania, to help speed up scientific research.
The Corona-AI Phase 1 project examined thousands of combinations of existing drugs and molecules similar to food-based medicines, using Artificial Intelligence to process 100 million mathematical calculations, and to help scientists explore their potential effect on COVID. -19.
To download the app search for DreamLab in the iOS Appstore or Play Store for Android.
DreamLab can be downloaded and used for free by Vodafone customers using MB or Wi-Fi. Dream Lab can also be used by users of other operators by selecting the amount of MB they want to dedicate to DreamLab, as well as over the wireless network. No personal data from the user's device is categorically used.
