
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, said that his country will be put in isolation for five weeks, to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
From Wednesday, all shops with non-essential items will be closed. Grocery stores, banks and pharmacies will remain open.
Hairdressers, museums, theaters, Christmas markets, casinos, amusement parks, gyms and swimming pools will also be closed.
Primary and secondary schools will also be closed from Wednesday. These measures will last until January 19.

On Monday, the Netherlands registered 8,496 new cases of coronavirus - slightly more than the weekly average.
As Rutte addressed the nation, protesters opposing the isolation measures could be heard outside parliament.
The Netherlands, in total, has registered over 632,000 cases of coronavirus. Of these, over 10,000 patients have lost their lives.
Worldwide, the number of infected has exceeded 72 million.
Over 1.6 million have died and over 47 million have recovered.
