The way you sleep and the position that the body takes during sleep is not so insignificant, but it also shows the relationship you have with your partner. Couples' sleeping positions have been the subject of a study of 1,100 people, published on the Edinburgh International Science Festival website.

The study found that couples who sleep a short distance from each other are generally happier than the rest who sleep a considerable distance. Also, if the bodies sleep having contact with each other, the relationship is even happier.

About 42 percent of couples who were part of the study indicated that they slept with their backs to each other, 31 percent slept in the same direction, and only 4 percent of them slept face to face. About 34 percent of couples sleep next to each other, 12 percent, at a short distance, while 2 percent slept up to a few inches apart.

91 percent of couples who sleep on their backs to each other and are touched are happy in their relationship.

91 percent of couples who sleep in the same direction next to each other are happy.

76 percent of couples who sleep in the same direction but at a distance from each other are happy.

74 percent of couples who sleep on their backs to each other but are not touched are happy.

55 percent of couples who sleep in front of each other are happy in their relationship.
