Actress Ellen Page, who announced in December that she is transgender and would be called Elliot Page, has announced that she will divorce her partner, Emma Portner.
The couple made the decision public in a statement to CNN on Tuesday.
"After much thought and careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends."

Their separation comes three years after they crowned love, in 2018. Portner, ballerina and choreographer, and Ellen (now Elliot) began their relationship in 2017.

The news comes two months after Page came out as transgender. At the time Portner posted a message of support on Instagram:
"I'm very proud of Elliot Page. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience and privacy, but also for you to join me in supporting trans life. Elliot 's existence is a gift in itself. Shine sweet E. I love you so much ".
