The 71st edition of the Italian Music Festival is coming to an end and as every year many singers and artists compete for the big win and awards. But what are the awards for the winning singers? The prices given have changed over time. For Sanremo 2021 there are several awards, in addition to the song that will lead in the final classification.
The most important prize of Sanremo 2021 is, of course, the final victory. First place goes to the golden lion trophy (symbol of the city of Sanremo). This award is given by the public vote, along with that of the press room and the demographic jury. The jury of experts, which in 2019 caused controversy after overturning the televoting result and led to the victory of the song "Soldi" by Mahmood, was absent in this year's edition.
Specifically, Sanremo’s victory does not involve a real monetary compensation (as often happens in talent shows). The winner's prize is all the media attention of the artist and the song. Moreover, whoever wins Sanremo, represents Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest. Even those who reach the second and third place, get a recognition in addition to considerable attention, which sometimes even surpasses the winning song in terms of musical success.
The Mia Martini Critics Award has been given annually since 1982 and is named after the late singer. The price is represented by a silver plate or plate and by many is considered to be almost more important than the first place. Among the artists who have grabbed the award three times are: Patty Pravo, Mia Martini, Cristiano De André, Paola Turci. The critics' award and the first place at the Sanremo festival may even coincide.
In Sanremo, the press hall award is given, in memory of Lucio Dalla, given by all the journalists present at the festival jury. The Enzo Jannacci Award usually honors the best performance, while the Lunezia Award goes to the musical-literary value of the song. To these is added the Giancarlo Bigazzi award for best musical composition.
