As long as we are living in this pandemic period, our relationship with alcoholic beverages may have become warmer as a result of limited hours and closing of night bars. But still this does not mean that we do not gather with friends and relatives at home, to consume a drink and have fun. (Always maintaining anti-Covid measures.)

Those who consume more than one type of alcoholic beverage during the night may recall old habits that reveal a preferred way of drinking, i.e. that drinking beer before summer is better than drinking wine before beer. It is such a widespread myth that many people apply it, but it is not known if there are great truths in it!

In theory, this idea was created to prevent or minimize alcohol dependence, a phenomenon that many people have experienced but that no one fully understands. But does it really make a difference whether you mix wine and beer or vice versa? A group of researchers at the University of Witten / Herdecke in Germany decided to find the answer in a study, the results of which were published last year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

During the experiment, one study group drank beer and then wine, while the second group drank in reverse order. A third group drank only beer, or only wine. About a week later, the subjects changed the beer-wine sequence, while the control group switched from beer only to wine, or vice versa.

In a finding that does not surprise anyone, vomiting and a higher level of intoxication achieved (as assessed by participants) were the two factors that are likely to lead to the worst symptoms. In fact, the study found that those in the control group, drinking only beer or only wine, were more likely to vomit than those who mixed both drinks at the same time.
