"Girl of Disaster," Zoe Roth has made a fortune - selling her original meme image as NFT for close to half a million dollars.
She was the subject of a viral image that became a favorite meme for humor on social media.
Roth, now 21, then 4, was wandering around her North Carolina neighborhood when her father photographed her with a cunning smile as firefighters put out a fire at home.
The image turned into a popular meme reposted millions of times over the past decade, but the family never found a way to make money from Roth fame online - until it was suggested that she sell the original image as a non-fun sign (NFT).
"Being able to sell it just shows us that we have some kind of control, some kind of agency throughout the process," Roth said, speaking to Raleigh News and the Observer.
Roth added that she and her father Dave Roth sought the advice of "meme" celebrities like "Girlfriend Overly Attached" Laina Morris and "Bad Luck Brian" Kyle Craven before hiring a manager and a lawyer to run the logistics.
It recently released the original photo as NFT for $ 473,000. Photo courtesy of collector Farzin Fardin Fard, CEO of a Dubai-based music production company
