Carla Fracci, the famous Italian ballerina has passed away at the age of 84, after a long battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by the opera house Teatro La Scala, the ballet school where Fracci studied from the age of 10.

Fracci was known for her performances as "Giselle" and "Swan Lake". She developed a successful career for more than 50 years. Since the 1980s she has directed the San Carlo Ballet Corps, then the Verona Arena and finally the Rome Opera.

Her fame is mainly related to the performances of roles like Julieta, Swanilda, Francesca da Rimini and above all Giselle. She has performed alongside big names like Rudolf Nureyev, Vladimir Vasiliev, Henning Kronstam, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Amedeo Amodio and Paolo Bortoluzzi. Fracci has been married since 1964 to director Beppe Menegatti with whom she has a son.
