Vietnam announced the existence of a new variant of the coronavirus. The Minister of Health, Nguyen Thanh Long confirmed that this variant has been seen in some citizens hospitalized.

"A new variant of Covid-19 has been unveiled in Vietnam that combines the features of two existing variants first discovered in India and Britain."

According to him, the new hybrid variant is more transmissible than previously known versions, especially by air. He said the mutation was discovered during the test in some infected patients and that the genetic code of the virus will be made available to scientists soon.

Vietnam, a country that has recorded a relatively low number of cases during the months of the pandemic, has faced rapid increases in the rate of infection in the past month.

Vietnam has previously reported seven variants of the coronavirus, four British and three Indian.
