Britney Spears's mother, Lynne, forced the singer to cancel her 55-hour marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander, divorce lawyer Mark Goldberg claims.
The lawyer, now retired, says neither the singer nor Alexander wanted the marriage to break up, but were forced to do so by Lynne Spears and Britney's management team.
"It was the mother who interfered in her daughter's life ," Goldberg told the Daily Mail.
Her ex-husband also decided to speak out, saying it was some controlling forces that forced them to end it.
"Some men dressed in black, along with her mother and other family members came and made us sign a document under pressure to end the marriage. We did not want to cancel it. They lied to us. "It was all about controlling Britney and her money," Jason said.
In January 2004, Spears married Alexander at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The oaths were overturned 55 hours later by a petition stating that Britney was not fully aware of the decisions she was making.
"She has lived a nightmare far worse than anyone can imagine, for much longer than people realize," he said.
He added that Britney's family members cheated on her to end the marriage because they thought that if they continued to stay together they could ruin Britney's career.
