Why not drink water when eating cakes? Drinking water while eating sweets manages to raise blood sugar levels to a very high degree.
The rise in blood sugar levels is higher when water is consumed, even higher than when you eat more sweets at the same time without drinking anything.
This conclusion has been drawn by some scientists and researchers in South America who have studied that water helps the body absorb more glucose from food.
The results of the study are very significant for people who can not do without sweets. And one of the most common habits is drinking water to eliminate excess sugar.
But why do so many cakes make you thirsty?
Glucose contained in sugar is responsible. This substance found in every dessert is able to slow down the time taken by the stomach to empty.
As a result, fluids do not reach the intestines in a timely manner, where they can be absorbed. So the intestines signal thirst.
But even if you drink water, the thirst is not quenched. You will have the feeling of thirst until the emptying of the stomach is over. So until your body has used up all the glucose of the dessert eaten.
For this new study, scientists analyzed blood sugar levels in a group of 35 people who ate a dessert and drank water before, during or after eating, or did not drink at all.
People who consumed water along with dessert showed the highest peak in blood glucose levels.
Their levels were almost twice as high as in the other groups mentioned.
High blood sugar levels are a cause for concern because the body can become insensitive and lose the ability to properly regulate blood levels.
All of this can lead to diabetes. This is why scientists suggest drinking water before or after eating.
People generally should avoid drinking at the same time as sweets, in order to reduce the impact of sugar consumption. An important piece of advice especially for those who suffer from diabetes./AW/
