The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, in 1994, designated October 5 as World Teacher's Day, to commemorate the signing of the ILO / UNESCO Teacher Status Recommendation, in Paris, on October 5, 1966. In the same year, according to the idea and suggestion of UNESCO, the Swiss pedagogue Robert Dottrens (1893 - 1984) drafted the solemn oath of the teacher on the basis of the oath of Hippocrates.

According to UNESCO, October 5 as World Teachers' Day is an opportunity to show that the work of teachers is one of the most important for the overall development of society.
