Shannen Doherty has talked about her breast cancer journey.

On Thursday, the 50-year-old actress - who revealed last year that her cancer had returned to stage 4 - gave fans a chance to see some images of what she called "my personal journey from first to second diagnosis". , in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"Is it something beautiful? NO, but it is true and my hope about it, is that we all become more educated and better known about cancer," she wrote on Instagram. "I hope to encourage people to do mammograms, get regular checkups, get over the fear and face whatever may be in front of you."

"In 2015 I was diagnosed with breast cancer," Doherty continued in the caption. "I had a mastectomy and chemotherapy. I had a lot of nosebleeds from the chemotherapy."

Explaining that she was often "too tired" during treatment, Doherty said she wore "funny pajamas" to be in a good mood.

"Finding humor helped me get through what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible."

Last month, Doherty talked about life with cancer during a virtual panel for her new film Lifetime List of a Lifetime, sharing that she feels "a responsibility" to destroy misconceptions about cancer.

"I feel like I have a public responsibility in my life, which I separate from my life as an actress ... to talk about cancer and maybe educate people more and let them know that people with stage 4 are very "Lively and very active," she told reporters.
