Selena Gomez wants to break the stigma surrounding mental health, so she teamed up with her mother, Mandy Teefy, and Newsette co-founder Daniella Pierson to launch WonderMind, a new platform that has this as its primary goal.
Speaking to Entrepreneur, the trio said they were inspired to create WonderMind after discussing whether more could be done to normalize conversations about mental health and shared a common concern that multiple startups and welfare apps were stirring the waters.
The company, called WonderMind, will be launched for the first time in February 2022 and Selena will run it with her mother, Mandy Teefey and Daniella Pierson.
The 29-year-old revealed the news as she appeared on the cover of Entrepreneur Magazine along with her partners.
Gomez spoke openly about her difficulties in 2015 when she discovered she had been diagnosed with lupus and had undergone chemotherapy to treat it, and in 2017 had to undergo a kidney transplant.
She struggled with anxiety, depression and panic attacks as a result of her lupus.
In the article, the founder of "Rare Beauty" stressed the importance of mental health as she detailed her difficulties, especially when it came to social media.
"It's one of those moments where I feel closer to my mom - we came together to talk about something that each of us has experienced in our own way. It was wonderful.
Mental health is something I feel very close to, close to my heart. "It is very important that there are places where people gather and realize that they are not alone in their difficult journey," she said of her new venture.
