Well-known Mexican actress and producer Carmen Salinas passed away on Thursday at the age of 82, almost a month after suffering a stroke that left her in a coma.

According to local media, her death in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City, was confirmed by the family on Friday evening in a Twitter post praising the contribution she made to Mexico during these years of life and the role she played in the Mexican film industry.

Rated as one of the best screen artists, for her talent and benevolent nature,? Salinas starred as the protagonist in more than 100 Mexican soap operas and films.

For a time, Salinas also tried his hand at politics, serving as a Member of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies for the Institutional Revolutionary Party.

When she suffered a blow to the head, Salinas was shooting the TV melodrama "Mi fortuna es amarte", in which she played the role of the great lady of Dona Margarita Domínguez.
