A wartime Bosnian drama "Quo Vadis, Aida?" , has won the top prize at the European Film Awards.

The film depicts the horrors of the Srebrenica massacre during the Balkan conflict and the disastrous efforts of the UN peacekeeping force to intervene.

Jasmila ?bani, who wrote, produced and directed the film, received the award for best director.

The Bosnian film beat stiff competition in the category of best films.
The director presented the award to the mothers and wives of Srebrenica, as well as to the fathers, wives and sons who were killed.

Best Actor was announced for Anthony Hopkins for his role in "The Father", while the best screenplay was won by Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton.

The best comedy was chosen "Ninjababy", directed by Yngvild Sve Flikke.

"Fleet", directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, was recognized for Best Documentary and Best Animation, while Danish director Susanne Bier was honored for her contribution to European cinema worldwide.

The annual event was strictly digital last year due to the pandemic, but organizers were able to host a hybrid ceremony this time.
