Nino Cerruti, one of the great Italian fashion stylists and entrepreneurs, has passed away at the age of 91. Reports say he died at the hospital in Piedmont, where he was checked for a thigh operation.
He always insisted on first proving his creations. Many of them were kept in the textile factory that his grandfather founded in the town of Biella in 1881.
"I have always dressed the same person, myself," he once said, according to the AFP news agency.
With his experience in the production of fine fabrics in his family's textile factory, Cerruti entered the garment business in the late 1950s.

He opened his first boutique in Paris in 1967.
When he asked male and female models to walk the catwalk in the same clothes, he revolutionized fashion, according to AFP.

In the 1980s, he moved to Hollywood, designing clothes for stars like Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks.
