Bella Hadid opened up about the difficulties she has had with setting boundaries in the family and in her relationships. Speaking on the VS Voices podcast, Bella said:
"I grew up among men - whether in relationships, in the family, or whatever - where I was constantly told that my voice was less important than their voice. "being able to manage on my own and hear my voice affected my relationship as an adult very intensively, where my nervous system would collapse," she continued.
"It was war or escape. Either I would shut up and cry and go inside, or I would attack and leave. I kept coming back to the men - and also the women - who had abused me, and so I became a "I was trying to please others. I started to have no boundaries, not only sexually, physically and emotionally, but then it affected my work as well," Bella added, explaining how she began to become hyper-focused in her work. "I started to become a person who tried to make everyone happy with my work."
However, she confessed that a mix of therapy, meditation and staying away from social media helped her.
"I am now able to open up and express my opinion, especially within my relationships and family," she added.
Of course, Bella comes from a famous family. While Bella's most talked about relationship was with The Weeknd, with whom she started dating in 2015, when he was 18 and he was 25 years old. The two remained connected for four years. Currently, Bella is said to be with artistic director Marc Kalman, while The Weeknd has been rumored to have a relationship with Angelina Jolie.
