Four Russian fighter jets have violated Swedish airspace today. The breach occurred in east Gotland. Air Force Chief Carl-Johan Edström has stated that in light of the current situation with the war in Ukraine, “we take the incident very seriously. There were two Russian SU-27 fighter jets and two Russian SU-24 fighter jets violating Swedish airspace. The breach, according to the Armed Forces was brief and occurred across the sea east of Gotland.
The SU-27, named after NATO "Flanker", is a fighter jet. The SU-24, which bears the NATO name "Fencer", is an attack and bomber aircraft.
Minister of Defense: "Completely unacceptable"
Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist has stated that the violation will lead to "a clear diplomatic signal from the Swedish side".
