Kanye West has been barred from performing at the Grammy Awards next month due to "online behavior", said a representative of the rapper and stylist.

The decision, confirmed for Variety, came a day after West, now legally known as Ye, was suspended from Instagram for 24 hours. The platform said the content on the 44-year-old's account was contrary to its policies on "hate speech, bullying and harassment".

Trevor Noah, comedian and host of the Daily Show, criticized West's posts about his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. West responded using a racial insult. The post was then deleted.

West has won 22 Grammys out of 75 nominations and is vying for five awards this year. But he was not on the first list of performers announced this week. A representative of the singer said that "Kanye's team is not surprised by the decision to exclude."
