TikTok is one of the fastest growing social networking platforms in the world. Finally, Sensor Tower published the report "Q1 2022: Store Intelligence Data Digest", where TikTok ranks the most downloaded application in the world in the first quarter of 2022.
The number of app downloads exceeds the 3.5 billion all-time figure in the first quarter of 2021, becoming the fifth (and only non-Meta-owned) app to reach this milestone.
Since the beginning of 2022, TikTok has been downloaded more than 175 million times. The number of TikTok downloads exceeds 10 million in the last nine quarters, while YouTube has exceeded the same threshold for eight consecutive quarters. No app has been downloaded as much as TikTok since the beginning of 2018, when WhatsApp was downloaded 250 million times worldwide, according to the report.
There is a lot to be said for the success of TikTok and where it is going. The social networking app is dominant for important trends, unique algorithm and diverse group of communities for each particular topic.
If you compare the worldwide downloads on iPhone and iPad, the ranking of the top five apps remains unchanged in the last three quarters. The number of TikTok downloads in the AppStore exceeds the 70 million mark for the third time in Q1 2022, driven by 11% quarter-on-quarter growth in Asia.
Despite being banned in India, which has one of the largest app installation markets in the world, the app ranks third in Asia. TikTok ranked first in the App Store but seventh on Google Play in Asia.
Looking at total downloads in the US, TikTok was the best app every quarter since the first quarter of 2021. The only app that TikTok has been able to do is Zoom, in the fourth quarter of 2020. Among other things, from the first quarter of 2021, TikTok and YouTube were the first two apps in the US App Store every quarter. TikTok also ranked first app on Google Play, for the third consecutive quarter, with the number of installations increasing by 19% compared to a year ago.
The same five applications ranked first in Europe for each of the last four quarters. WhatsApp's TikTok were the first two, while Instagram fell by one position compared to the last quarter, in fourth place. Although WhatsApp was the first App Store app in Europe for each of the last seven quarters, TikTok maintained its lead in Google Play during the same period.
These Sensor Tower estimates include worldwide downloads for iPhone, iPad, and Google Play from January 1 to March 31, 2022. The study excludes pre-installed apps. The company reports only unique installations and ratings on the Android operating system do not include third-party stores. The figures represent the general installations of all versions of the application.
